The pictures above show are a good example showing the versatility of thermal imaging in detecting faults.
The pictures were obtained during a thermal imaging inspection of a factory with large freezer areas. The freezer doors are fitted with trace heating to heat the door surrounds and stop them freezing shut.
The left picture clearly shows the trace heating working as can be seen by the yellow border surrounding the door. The picture on the right shows a cold border around the door and indicates that the trace heating is not in operation. This door was an emergency exit from the freezer room, which makes it even more important that in the event that it needs to be used, the door will open.
Thermal Imaging is ideally suited to these sorts of applications, it is quick to carry out, non-contact and can highlight problems that cannot be seen with the human eye.
